LIS have experience in the application and design of a wide variety of non-contact measurement techniques including:

Image processing:

For real-time automated motion detection in surveillance video systems, measurement of queue length and occupancy in public spaces, real-time motion tracking. Applications in airports and railway stations, ports, security, crowd behaviour, intrusion detection, speed detection, detection of forbidden direction of movement.

High Speed Imaging:

For capturing and analysing transient events. Applications in manufacturing, sprays, cutting and machining, motion analysis.

Optical Shape Measurement:

Highly accurate non-contact measurement of 3D surface form using structured light projection. Applications in thermal forming of metal panels, quality control, large scale distortion in aeroelastic structures such as wind turbines, sails.

Speckle Interferometry:

For imaging and measurement of surface deformations in vibration and structural mechanics. Applications in vibration modal analysis, Non-Destructive Testing (cracks, weaknesses), thermally induced microdistortion in circuit boards, connectors.

Particle Image Velocimetry:

For mapping fluid flow patterns and measuring fluid velocity fields in liquids and gases. Applications in engines/gas turbines/wind and water turbines/pumps/mixers.

Laser Doppler Velocimetry and Phase-Doppler Anemometry:

For measuring fluid velocity and particle size distributions. Applications in fuel injection systems, cooling systems, driers combustors, powder and aerosol drug delivery, agricultural sprays.

Laser Induced Fluorescence:

For imaging the concentrations of individual chemicals in situations such as mixing, combustion and reacting flows. Applications in power generation, chemical processing, biological imaging.

Thermography:

Using InfraRed imaging systems and thermographic coatings to map surface temperature fields. Applications in mixing systems, overheat detection, cooling systems.
